Margaret Short Obituary

Margaret " Lori " Dolores Short of Bartow, Florida and formally of Delta, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully at her home on November 11th.  She was 93 years old.

Margaret was born on February 10, 1926 in Cumberland, MD to William and Margaret Yantz. Years later, she relocated to Baltimore City where she met her husband, Walter Short, on a blind date. After that date, she knew she had met the man she was going to marry. Just one month later in 1942, Walt and Lori, as he lovingly called her, married. Their union lasted a wonderful 53 years.

Walt and Lori started their lives together in Orangeville, MD and eventually built their first home on Montrose Avenue in Essex, MD. Five children were born, Walter Steven Jr., John William, Patricia Ann, Margaret Kathleen and Michael David.

In 1978, Lori and Walt relocated to Delta, Pennsylvania after building their second home. Lori took a job as a cook and it was here, at a small restaurant called Scotty’s that Margaret Dolores Short became known for her Sausage gravy. She fed not only her Delta neighbors but many workers from the Peach Bottom Power Plant. She was a down home country cook and everyone loved her. After the restaurant closed, Lori was happy to spend her time with family, shopping and yard sales.

Life for Lori was not without heartbreak. In October of 1992, she lost her son John William to cancer. In August of 1994, her loving husband Walt passed away from mesothelioma, followed by the eldest son, Walter Steven Short Jr in October of 2007 to heart failure. The eldest daughter, Patricia Ann Pitman, also lost her battle with cancer in December of 2010.  In addition, her brother Sunny Phillip Yantz passed in February 2006, followed by brother Leon Yantz.

Margaret Dolores Short is survived by Margaret Kathleen “Kathy” Broussard, Michael David Short, Sr. and wife, Jeanne. Elaine Short, wife of deceased Walter Steven, Jr. and Nancy Short, wife of deceased John William Short. Grandchildren, Penny Chavis, Walter Short, James Short, William Short, John Short Jr, Gregory Short, Robert Crothers, Jeffrey Crothers, Mark Pitman, Heather Brady, Jessica Short, Michael Short Jr. and Forrest Short. As well as a multitude of great and great great grandchildren and dear godmother to Joanne McLean.
