On July 23, 2018 Thomas "Tom" Leon Taylor beloved husband of the late Patricia L. Taylor (nee Hitchcox); devoted father of Dennis Taylor and his wife Doris, Andrea Ellingsworth, Marsha Leighton-Herrmann and her husband Michael, Thomas Taylor and his wife Patricia, Beth Herr and her husband Christopher, Stephen Taylor and his wife Bobbie; Also survived by 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
As a World War II veteran, Mr. Taylor was a life-long member of the VFW and American Legion. With the VFW, Mr. Taylor was a past Commander of VFW Post 106 in West Chester, PA. He, along with his late wife Pat, participated in the VFW organization, Military Order of the Cootie, which provides friendship and recreation to patients at VA hospitals. In 1996-97 Tom was a Military Order of the Cootie “Grand of Maryland”. Tom was also a member of DESA (Destroyer Escort Sailor Association), and a past Commodore of Wellwood Yacht Club in Charlestown, MD.
Mr. Taylor worked for the railroad beginning his career in 1947 with the Pennsylvania Railroad, which merged to become Penn Central, and later CONRAIL, before he retired from the Diesel Bureau in Philadelphia in 1983.
A funeral service will be held at the Connelly Funeral Home of Essex, 300 Mace Avenue on Monday at 11:00 am. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm.
Interment at Holly Hill Memorial Gardens
