Anna Mae Brooks (Nee Tirschman)
Anna was born on June 21, 1931. Anna is survived by Kathleen Clark (Robert), Thomas (Sherry), Robin Emrick (Arthur), Barry (Tom), & Craig (Amy), 11 adoring grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 4 (soon to be 5) great-great-grandchildren.
Anna was born and raised in Baltimore City. She was a graduate of Patterson High School Class of 1949. She worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad (Penn Central, later Conrail) for 36 years. Anna loved working for the Railroad, but her other love was community service; she was a pillar in the Baltimore area-- she founded the Kenwood High School Booster Club in 1981, she ran the Athletic Boosters at Chesapeake High School for many years, was president of her Retiree’s Club (Penn Central Retired Employees Association #5), and was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church since 1964. In the 1980’s, Anna created a clothing give-away at St. John’s to help those in need-appropriately called Miss Ann’s Closet. It evolved to include housewares, shoes, infant items, and much more. After retiring from the Railroad in 1993, she started collecting used toys and began an annual Christmas giveaway for families in need. Anna was an avid baker, who used those talents to raise money for her beloved toy drive. When she wasn’t volunteering at church or baking, she could be found in her garden tending to her summer harvest, spending time with her family, and watching Hallmark movies.
