On Wednesday, April 1, 2020 Betty Jean Burkholder (nee Keys), loving mother of four children, passed away at age 94.
Betty was born February 12, 1926 in Havre de Grace, Maryland to John Stanley Keys and Clara (Marshall) Keys. Betty married Harry P. Burkholder, Jr. in 1947. They raised four daughters: Sandra, Rebecca, June, and Patricia.
Betty worked at Western Union then retired from Chevron, previously Hoffberger Oil Company, after many years of dedicated service. Betty loved and help care for her family and friends, traveled a lot and enjoyed country music. She enjoyed concerts at the Grand Ole Opry and fun-filled vacations with friends. She was skilled at crocheting and taught her daughters and neighborhood kids the art of handmade crafting. She loved animals and let her daughters keep the stray cats they found during their childhood. Her last dog, Pepper, is still fondly remembered by her family. Even at 94, Betty continued to drive herself around town to visit her loved ones and help friends or neighbors in need.
Betty adored all of her grandchildren: Tony, Greg, Dylan, Karen, Angela, Stephen, and Jesse, plus, her two great grandchildren: Grace and Lizzie.
Betty is survived by her four daughters and her brother Paul Keys of Lynchburg, Virginia.
A funeral service will be held at the Connelly Funeral Home of Essex, 300 Mace Avenue on April 7th, 2020 at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be held on April 7th, 2020 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Interment at Gardens of Faith Memorial Gardens.
