Betty C Harper (nee Fink), 86, peacefully passed away on January 3, 2025, following a long illness.
Born on December 23, 1938, in Clintwood, Virginia, Betty was the devoted wife of the late James R. (Dick) Harper.
Betty was the heart and soul of her family. She was the loving mother of three and grandmother of eight. Betty’s greatest joy came from nurturing her family. Her legendary summertime pool parties were a tradition that brought together family and friends for great food, laughter, and memorable good times.
Beyond her role as a mother, Betty was an active volunteer at St. Clare’s Catholic Parish and the Essex Rec Council when her children were growing up.
Betty was also a successful businesswoman who owned and operated a thriving and well-regarded tax preparation and bookkeeping service in the Essex-Dundalk area for 43 years.
She is survived by her son, James Harper Jr, and his wife Jamie. Betty was a loving “Grandma” to Mathew, Michael, Stephen, Icee, Tyler, Andrew, Devin and Rachel. She was the cherished daughter of the late Charles Fink and the late Daphinia Fink (nee Phillips). Betty was the dear sister of Barbara Marshall (Dennis), Susan Dennison (the late Denny), Charles Fink, Jr., Janet Joynes (Philip), Deborah Myers (the late Jerry).
She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her terribly.
Betty was predeceased by her devoted husband of nearly 66 years, James R. “Dick” Harper and two sons, Anthony G. Harper and Timothy M. Harper.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Connelly Funeral Home Essex, 300 Mace Avenue on Friday, January 10th, 2025, at 10 AM. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 9th, 2025, from 2 – 4 and 6 -8 P.M.
