On June 24, 2026, Carole Joyce Mattes (nee Waganer) passed away with her family by her side. Born on July 3,1947 in Baltimore, MD to the late Clayton Waganer and the late Ruby Schaum. Married for 49 years to her husband, the late John Mattes. Loving mother of daughter Jennifer Mattes-Bustos and husband Pablo Bustos and daughter Christina Krause. Cherished dog Delilah who was always right by her side until the very end. Devoted “Grandma/Nana” to Amanda, Allison, Colten, Isabel and Avery. Beloved fur babies; Stella, Carolina, Louie, Max, Draco and Sombra. Sister of James Waganer and wife Carolyn and the late Deloris Hildebrandt. Favorite aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Carole graduated from Overlea High School. She worked for over 20 years at Baltimore Gas & Electric before retiring. Known to her friends and family as a kind, compassionate and giving person. Always offering to make a cake, take a dish or comfort someone in need. Her personality was vibrant and she loved to laugh. She loved music, watching mystery/true crime shows and being present for all the sports events and extracurricular activities that her grandchildren were involved in.
Viewings will be held on Tuesday, June 30th at Connelly Funeral Home of Essex, 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 1st at Connelly Funeral Home of Essex at 10am. Burial to follow at Holly Hill Memorial Gardens in Middle River.
