It is with deep sorrow and immeasurable love that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Cheryl Denise Brown, daughter of the late Vilma Mae Brown and James Brown, Sr., who was born on July 13, 1957, in Baltimore, Maryland. Affectionately known to her cherished family and dear friends simply as Cheryl, she graced the world with warmth, strength, and a quiet resilience that left an indelible mark on all who were blessed to know her.
Cheryl received her formal education through the Baltimore City Public School System, where the foundation of her intellect and spirited work ethic was laid. Over the years, she dedicated herself to service, becoming a valued member of the workforce at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, and later, a respected member of the dry-cleaning industry, where her diligence and grace shone through.
More than any title or job, Cheryl held her most prized role as a devoted mother. She was the proud and loving mother to three beautiful children: LaShawn Nelson, Nikeya Brown, and Marcus Brown. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering support anchored her family with boundless love.
Cheryl’s passions were simple yet profound—she found joy in the art of cooking, the creativity of arts and crafts, the quiet pleasure of crocheting, and, most especially, the treasured moments spent with her adored grandchildren. She was the proud grandmother of seven: Andre’a Jennings, Shambria Nelson, Ajee Nelson (preceded her in death), Christopher Basden, Amaya Brown, Gregory Blair, Desmond Jones, and Saalimah Brown. Her legacy also lives on in the smiles and laughter of her great-grandchildren: Anaya Pearson, Braylen Pearson, Ameniah Jennings, Ajee’ Pearson, Armani Nelson, Ayla Nelson, and Brion Lamont Nelson—each one a shining star in the constellation of her life.
On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Cheryl transitioned peacefully at Autumn Lake Healthcare, having completed her earthly assignment with grace and dignity. Her passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but also a legacy of love that will continue to uplift generations.
She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory her beloved brothers: Charles Brown, Alvin Brown, and Edward (Eddie) Brown. She is now reunited in eternal peace with her sister, Delores McCoy, and her brother, James Brown, both of whom preceded her in death. Cheryl’s radiant life will forever be remembered by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a devoted circle of family and friends.
Among those mourning her departure are her nieces: Melody Brown, Tiffany Hair, Krystal McCoy, and Shannon Brown; her nephews: Randolph McCoy, James (Jamie) Brown, and Ramsey Brown—each of whom held a special place in her heart. In addition to these beloved family members, a host of other extended relatives and lifelong friends join in honoring her life and legacy.
As we navigate the sorrow of this tremendous loss, we ask for your continued prayers and comforting presence. Cheryl’s light remains with us—in every meal lovingly prepared, every stitch sewn with care, and every embrace shared among those she held dear.
May her soul rest in perfect and everlasting peace.
