Darrell Lee Ames,
70, passed away on May 18, 2025, reuniting with his beloved wife in
heaven. Darrell was a man whose heart knew no bounds, he welcomed anyone in need of
family with open arms and unwavering generosity.
In his final moments, he was surrounded by the love he so freely gave throughout his life—
love returned by his children, grandchildren (both biological and chosen), great-
grandchildren, and close friends. His stubborn spirit and steadfast nature were matched only
by his deep compassion and humility.
Darrell’s life was one of hard work and quiet strength. From his early days on a farm in his
hometown, to his 23 years of service in the U.S. Army, to 21 years spent delivering mail, he
worked tirelessly to provide for those he loved. In between, he raised two generations, always
placing family first.
Even in his final days, Darrell’s focus remained on ensuring his family would be cared for.
His kindness, resilience, and selflessness will be remembered and cherished by all who knew
him.
He is survived by his son, Matthew; his daughter, Helen; and his grandchildren Desirae,
Aaron, Sabrina, Shawn, Leanna, Logan, Olivia, Maria and Nick.
In his honor, we will strive to live fully and love deeply—just as he did with every moment
he spent with us.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Connelly Funeral Home of Essex, 300 Mace Avenue on Friday, May 23rd, 2025 at 10 am. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 22nd, 2025 from 2 - 4, and 6 - 8 pm.
