Ethel L. (nee Marlow) Bloom

Ethel Bloom (age 90, of Baltimore, Maryland), cherished mother and grandmother, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025, in the presence of love, comfort and peace. 

Born in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, Ethel was the daughter of Ernest and Julia Marlow. As a child, she moved with her family to Baltimore. She often spent summers as a child in North Carolina with her Grandma - days she often described as some of the fondest memories of her life.

Those who knew Ethel will remember her for her charisma, resilience, feistiness, humor, big dreams, her trove of stuffed animals, abundance of Christmas decor, and above all, her love of her family and friends. 

After retirement from a long career in banking, Ethel continued to enjoy many other interests including serving as president of her condominium association, reading, music, and travel - whether it was her frequent trips to nearby Ocean City or sightseeing across the country with her best friend Charlotte Harris. She also enjoyed taking her grandchildren on trips to the beach and Disney World. 

Ethel was the beloved mother of Christi Drakos and her husband George; Valerie Pospisil and her husband Steve; grandmother of Kelsey O’Planick and her husband Ryan; Kalliopi Kelemen and her husband Joe; and great-grandmother of Noah, Evelyn & Lillian. She also leaves behind sister-in-law Betty Marlow, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Ethel was preceded in death by spouses Edward Ronald (Ronnie) Roth (1976) and Norman Bloom (1979); and siblings Betty Yow and Robert Marlow. 

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Lawn Cemetery (7225 Eastern Ave.), followed by a celebration of her life at a local restaurant. 

Her family invites those who knew her to share memories and laughter — the way she would have wanted.
