Frederick Conrad, Jr. Obituary

December 9, 1928 – August 7, 2025

Frederick William Conrad Jr., a proud veteran, master tradesman, and pillar of the Bowleys Quarters community, passed away peacefully on August 7th, 2025 at the age of 96.

Born on December 9, 1928, Frederick moved with his family from Baltimore City to Bowleys Quarters at the age of three—a place that would remain central throughout his life. He graduated from Kenwood High School in 1945 and went on to study drafting at the Polytechnic Institute for three years. In 1948, he enlisted in the United States Army, completing basic training at Fort Bragg and paratrooper training at Fort Benning. That same year, he was deployed to Korea, serving with distinction under the Truman hitch and achieving the rank of Master Sergeant.

Upon returning from military service, Frederick pursued an electrical apprenticeship through Local 28 of the Electrical Union. He went on to build a successful and respected career in the trade, known for his skill, discipline, and unwavering work ethic. At the same time, he remained devoted to helping his parents manage the family business—Conrad’s Ruth Villa—a local picnic ground that hosted church outings, reunions, and community events.

In time, Frederick assumed full ownership of Conrad’s Ruth Villa and poured his energy into its growth. Through vision, hard work, and a deep love for the land, he transformed the property into a full-service catering venue that became a beloved gathering place for weddings, corporate events, and celebrations. Never one to stop dreaming, he later expanded the property further by constructing Parkside Marina, a 126-slip floating dock marina that continues to serve the waterfront community.

Today, thanks to his foresight and dedication, both Conrad’s Ruth Villa and Parkside Marina remain family-owned and operated—now thriving into their fourth generation. His work and legacy have left an enduring mark on the landscape and the hearts of many.

Frederick was a man of many talents and passions. He enjoyed boating, fishing, water skiing, woodworking, and even skydiving. He had a natural gift for building and fixing just about anything. A lover of music, he often offered his DJ services for local events, bringing people together through joy and celebration. He was also active in the Bowleys Quarters Improvement Association and contributed to the betterment of his community throughout his life.

Above all, Frederick cherished time with his family. He shared 61 years of marriage with his wife and took quiet pride in the generations that followed—children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren carry forward the values he lived by. His steady presence and deep connection to home left a meaningful legacy that continues to grow.
