James Daniel Whitener passed away surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy rooted in family, friendship, and a life well lived. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who valued time with those closest to him.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Armond and Callie Whitener, and his brother, Gary Whitener.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Whitener; his sister, Anita Costner; his children, Danene Dorcas (Dean Dorcas) and Dana Myers (James Webb); his grandchildren, Logan Fanelli (Katie Fanelli), Tanner Myers, Branden Dorcas, Samantha Webb, and Nathen Dorcas; and his great-grandchildren, Avalyn and Colton Fanelli.
Dan enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved golfing, looked forward to his weekly breakfasts with friends, and cherished time spent with family. He valued his faith and lived it quietly through his character and the way he treated others. He was an active member of Middle River Baptist Church.
Dan found comfort in the following Scripture:
“My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
John 14:2–3
Dan will be remembered for his steady presence, gentle spirit, and deep love for family and friends. He will be dearly missed.
Graveside services and interment will be held at Holly Hill Memorial Gardens, 10201 Bird River Rd., Baltimore, MD 21220, on Saturday, January 17th, 2025 at 2 pm.
