John Fischer Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of John Francis Fischer, a beloved husband, father, and pillar of our community.  John passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, at the age of 82 leaving behind a legacy of entrepreneurial spirit and unwavering family love. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the only child of the late Frederick A. Fischer and Irma Fischer (nee Davis).  He married his soulmate, Isabell Constance Fischer, in 2003, both having just celebrated 21 years of marriage last October.  Along with his wife, he is survived by his children, David J. Fischer and wife Theresa Fischer, Bethany Fischer Bruening and husband Jeffery Bruening, Melanie Fischer Prats and husband Jaime Prats, Jason F. Fischer and wife Heather Fischer, Todd R. Fischer and wife Sarah Fischer, and son Daniel J. Fischer.  He is also survived by his stepdaughters Sherri L. Ellefson and Lisa A. Colton and her husband Steven Colton.  He was grandfather to Victoria, Ian, Jillian, Zoe, Madison, Everett, Justin, Riley, Lily, and Jessica.  He was a great-grandfather to Raelyn, Ethan, and Parker.

A successful business owner for over 50 years, John built J. F. Fischer, Inc. from the ground up starting in 1973 with a dream and a small donation from family.  Due to John’s decades of hard work and determination, J. F. Fischer, Inc. is recognized as one of the premier mechanical contracting firms in the Baltimore area.  He later acquired Power and Combustion, Inc., which serves the community with skilled HVAC service technicians as well.  As President and CEO for both companies, and with his innovation, insight, integrity, and dedication to excellence, he built both companies into the regional powerhouses they are today.  Both companies provided career opportunities to thousands of men and women for over 50 years.   He was a two-time former Board of Directors President of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Maryland.  His leadership qualities, amazing work ethic, and strong presence through many years of dedication will never be forgotten.  He was well loved and respected both personally and professionally by all who knew him. Outside of business life, John enjoyed restoring vintage Lincoln automobiles.  He was the proud owner of one of the late actor Jackie Gleason’s Lincoln limousines, as well as one of former President Harry Truman’s Lincoln limousines. When he was not in the office, he could be found in his custom Lincoln garage-museum or his Lincoln restoration shop.  His collection of Lincoln memorabilia includes every vintage Lincoln print advertisement ever created.  His collection of all types of Lincoln memorabilia was extensive and impressive. John was great company and as good and true a friend as any person could hope to have in their life.  All who knew him were privileged to call him husband, father, boss, colleague, mentor, and friend. His life may have ended but his love and light will shine eternally.

“The inherent shortcoming of the gift of life is its inescapable relationship with death. The upside is what we do with the opportunity in between.”
