Joyce Jeanette (Smith) Welsh

Joyce Jeanette (Smith) Welsh, 82, passed away on May 30, 2024.

She was born March 5, 1942, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to the late Paul and Jeanette (Pratt) Smith. 

Joyce graduated from Cedar Cliff High School of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania in 1960.   She met her husband Edmund shortly thereafter during a summer vacation at Rehoboth Beach.  They married in 1961 and started their life together in Baltimore.

Joyce retired from Medstar Franklin Square Medical Center, in Baltimore, where she worked for over 30 years.  She was an avid reader, who enjoyed gardening, doing crafts, and scrapbooking the many photos she loved to take.  Above all, she loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Edmund Welsh, Jr.; son, Mark Welsh (Robin); daughter Melanie Welsh Brilhart (Michael); grandchildren Amanda, Alex and Max Brilhart; sister Debra Miller (Andrew), brother Steve Smith (Dawn); and many other dear family members, friends and her granddogs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her dear sister Suzanne (Smith) Murray and brother, John Smith.   

A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 17th from 2-4 p.m.  at Connelly Funeral Home of Essex at 300 Mace Avenue, Essex, MD  21221.  The family will begin receiving guests at 2 p.m. followed by a service at 3 p.m.  Her ashes will be interred at Garrison Forest Veteran’s Cemetery at a later time.
