Irene, as she was commonly known, received her education at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, where she was also a parishioner from birth to death. She was a devout Catholic and prayer warrior.
Irene is predeceased by her husband, Frank N. Oldewurtel. They were married 64 years at the time of Frank's death. She always referred to him as
"My Frank". Irene is survived by her sister Agnes Mattheu and husband Frank, her four children Kathleen and husband Bob Mattheu, Robert and wife Amy Oldewurtel, David and wife Debbie Oldewurtel, Barbara Henry and partner Anthony Mason, 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
She loved animals, especially the little fox that came everyday for dinner.
Irene loved social gatherings, lunches with family and friends, telling stories of her childhood or her visits to the West Virginia Mountains. She excelled at sewing with no patterns and was a fantastic cook. She had a funny sense of humor and easily laughed at herself. She was fond of puzzles, dominoes and word search books, but mostly ice cream and snowballs.
She was loving, fun and will be sorely missed.
A funeral service will be held at Gardens of Faith Cemetery on Saturday, September 6th at 10 AM. The service will be held in the mausoleum.
