Marie (Martinez) Shoemaker

On March 4, 2026, Marie Shoemaker (nee Martinez) passed peacefully in her sleep after a long illness. She is survived by her son Wilbert Shoemaker III, her daughter Sharon M. Piper, grandchildren Adam, Jennifer, Kerry, Charles, Michael, Zachary, and Olivia; great-grandchildren: Aiden, Issac, and Allen. She is predeceased by her husband of 57 years Wilbert Shoemaker, Jr and her daughter Tina (Shoemaker) Worsham. 

She is also survived by 3 sisters, Lupe Lendza, Mercedes Shoemaker, and Marcella Shoemaker. Predeceased by 3 brothers - Frank, John, and Michael Martinez.

Marie worked for over 30 years at Hawthorne Elementary School in the cafeteria and as a classroom aide.

She was a long time resident of the Hawthorne Community and grew up on Miller's Island, graduating in 1961 from Sparrows Point High School.

A celebration of her life will be held at Central Baptist Church of Essex, 404 N. Marlyn Avenue, Essex, MD 21221 on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM.
