On January 5, 2019 Melvin "Tom" Thomas Mathis devoted husband of Cathy Mathis (nee Landers); beloved father of Wendy Gaidau and her husband Victor and Holly Gifford and her fiance' John Ruyter; loving "Pop-O" of Noah and Brayden McGuire and Max and Esther Gifford; dear brother of Janice Liposchak; cherished uncle of Sheila Liposchak and Carlie Dua and her husband Sam.

A memorial service will be held at the Connelly Funeral Home of Essex, 300 Mace Avenue on Saturday, February 9th, 2019 at 2 pm. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, February 9th, 2019 from 1-2 pm. Interment private.
