Michael Short, Sr. Obituary

Michael David Short, Sr. 65, of Manchester, Tennessee left us peacefully January 22,

2026 surrounded by his family. Mike was a beloved husband, father and

grandfather, known to his grandchildren as “Poppy-Duck”. To friends and loved ones, he was simply “Pop”.

Mike was born in Baltimore, MD on April 21, 1960, and raised in the suburb of Essex.

He was the youngest of five children born to Walter and Delores “Lori” Short. Mike

was a 1978 graduate of Kenwood Senior High School. Soon after graduation, he

moved to Pennsylvania and began his career in the window and door industry where

he remained for over 30 years. He moved on to become a Sales Specialist for Lowes

in Millwork where he faithfully remained for 15 years.

Mike loved the outdoors. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting.

There was never a season Mike was not found in the woods or on the water.

Mike respected nature and the bounty it provided. Carrying on the Short family tradition,

he became the President of the 10/4 Gunning Club in Cambridge, Maryland in 1994.

For one week every year dating back to the late 1950’s the Short family and club

members would come together for deer season at what was referred to as “The

Shack”. They hunted hard for Sika deer and handed down their tradition for generations.

While residing in Bucks County, Pennsylvania with his family, Mike became an

instructor for the NRA’s Branch Valley Youth Hunters Education Challenge.

He spent several years teaching kids how to improve their hunting, marksmanship and safety skills.

He made sure to transfer his knowledge and respect for nature down to his

own children, and to others he met along the way.

Mike never met a stranger, and he always had time for everyone.

Mike had an unwavering dedication to his family. He always made sure you knew

you were loved. He enjoyed watching his children grow and took tremendous pride

in their accomplishments. You’d never leave “Pop” without a hug and kiss goodbye.

He didn’t care how old you were, he always believed that you never know when

your last day was going to be.

He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 34 years, Jeanne (Dunkle) Short;

daughter Jessica (Short) White and husband Gregory, Son Michael D. Short, Jr.

and wife Lesley, Son GySgt. Forrest H Short and wife, Amanda. Granddaughters,

Harper Grace White, Joella Erin Short, Violet Maddison White and expected

grandson, Walter Robert Lee Short (March 2026). He is also survived by sister;

Margaret Kathleen (Short) Broussard, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Short Jr., brother John Short Sr., sister Patricia (Short) Pitman and his faithful 4- legged companion, Tater.
