It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Chief of Police retired Colonel Donald Biedenback, a devoted husband, beloved father, proud grandfather, and respected public servant. Don passed away peacefully at home on April 5th at the age of 67.
A dedicated law enforcement officer, Don served his community with honor and integrity for over 25 years, with a distinguished career marked by leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment to justice. He was not only a protector of the community but also a mentor and friend to many in the department and beyond.
At the heart of his life was his family. He was the loving husband of Kathy Biedenback (nee Goff), his partner in life and love, and the devoted father of Jake; married to Nicole, and Zach; married to Rachael whom he raised with strength, wisdom, and humor. Nothing brought him more joy than his role as “Pop” to his cherished grandchildren- Ava, Chase, and Levi- who lit up his life with laughter and love. Don is also survived by his mother Marvelle Biedenback (nee Defibaugh); and siblings, Rick Biedenback, Judy Newton, and Tina Schultz. He is preceded in death by his father, the late Harry Biedenback.
Don will be remembered for his strong moral compass, his quiet strength, and his deep love for those around him. His legacy of service and love will live on in all who knew him.
A public visitation will be held at Connelly Funeral Home of Essex, 300 Mace Ave. on Monday, April 14th from 2 PM to 4 PM and from 6 PM to 8 PM.
