Sheila Jackson Obituary

Sheila Denise Jackson, 72, joined this world on September 25, 1953 and peacefully transitioned on May 26, 2026.  Known to family and close friends as “Pennie”, Sheila lived a life defined by service, devotion, and fierce love for those around her.

Sheila married the love of her life, Darryl Jackson, on August 14, 1976. They welcomed their daughter, Stacey in October of 1979. Sheila welcomed her son-in-law Richard joined the family. She was overjoyed with the addition of the lights of her life — her granddaughters — Madison and Sabrina.

Sheila was a proud Baltimore native who dedicated much of her life to caring for others. She most notably served her community through the Shady Spring Elementary PTA before joining the school staff as an instructional assistant. Later, she lovingly cared for her husband, Darryl, during his illness until he passed. Sheila spent more than twenty years as a special needs school bus attendant, a role that perfectly reflected her patient heart and commitment to helping children.

A faithful member of Community Christian Church, Sheila loved Jesus deeply and was never shy about sharing her faith with others. She volunteered for many years in children's ministry, helping young people learn about God's love through her kindness, patience, and servant's heart. Whether at church, at school, on the bus, or in her own home, serving others was simply who she was.

Sheila enjoyed life's simple pleasures. She loved shopping, watching Hallmark movies, eating crabs, and spending time with her family. Her greatest joy came from being surrounded by the people she loved.

Those who knew Sheila will remember her as feisty, devoted, and endlessly caring. She loved to laugh (especially at her husband Darryl’s silly jokes) and share stories with her signature brand of humor. She loved deeply, served generously, and never hesitated to show up for the people who needed her. Whether caring for family members, supporting students, teaching children at church, or encouraging friends, Sheila lived a life of service and compassion.

Sheila was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Darryl Jackson; her parents, Vincent and Ethel Lomax; her sister-in-law, Joni Holland; and her sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Johnson; her dear friend, Shirlene English.

She leaves behind a family who will cherish her memory: her daughter, Stacey Cosden, and son-in-law, Richard Cosden; her granddaughters, Madison and Sabrina Cosden; Darryl Whitehead, whom she raised as a son; her sister, Sharon Williams; her brothers-in-law Martin Jackson and Carl Jackson; her sisters-in-law, Joslyn Starvis and Myra Jackson; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, her church family, and many dear friends whose lives were touched by her love and generosity.

Though our hearts are broken by her loss, we find peace in knowing that Sheila is safe in the arms of the Jesus she faithfully loved and served throughout her life. Her legacy of faith, service, compassion, and love will live on in all who knew her. While she will be deeply missed, we rejoice in the promise that she is now at home with her Savior, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her, and hearing the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
