Sylvia Louise Lindsey Thomas, affectionately known as “Suvvy,” passed away on November 19, 2024, at the age of 77 after a hard-fought battle with illness.
Born on June 27, 1947, in Baltimore, MD, Sylvia was the daughter of the late Carl Lindsey Sr. and Arnita Lindsey. She grew up in Baltimore and graduated from Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School.
Sylvia was known for her straightforward, caring nature—a straight shooter with a kind heart. She loved life, enjoyed watching the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles, and cherished time spent with family, especially when eating crabs and dancing to music. Sylvia also had a passion for daytime soaps, particularly The Young and the Restless, which she loved to watch.
Sylvia dedicated nearly 40 years to the Baltimore public school system, primarily as a teacher’s aide, and spent summers working with Baltimore City YouthWorks, helping local teens secure summer employment. In 1981, she married the love of her life, William Edward Thomas Jr. They had two children, Jeffrey and Aaron (Terrolyn). Sylvia’s devotion to her family was evident in her care for her late sister, Rose Mitchell, who lived with her until her passing.
Sylvia’s legacy lives on through her grandchildren—Jeffrey Jr., Amir, and Nia—and great-grandson, Amari. In her later years, she lived at Park View Retirement Home, where she made lasting friendships and enjoyed time with her grandchildren.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings: Lorraine, Rose, Carl, Dennis, Andre, and Kearney. She is survived by her sisters Sheila, Anna, Carolyn (George), and Katherine (Ronnie); brothers Charles (Marsha), Clifton, and Kevin; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Sylvia’s love and strength will be remembered by all who knew her.
Rest in peace, Suvvy.
