Vernon T. Hughes, Jr., of Rosedale, MD, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, after much pain and suffering from being diagnosed with one medical issue after another since early December of 2024.
Vern, also known as "Wootz" to family members, was born on December 28, 1942, in Baltimore, MD (Highlandtown) to Vernon and Marie Kane Hughes. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Altvater Hughes after 33 years of marriage. He also had two sisters, Faith Hughes Matthews (deceased) (William) and Kathy Hughes Diefenbach (Roy).
Vern is also survived by two nephews, Chuck Eder (Bluie) and Brian Eder (Angie); and five great nieces and nephews, Julianna, Rhys, McKenna, Nicholas and Harper.
In addition, Wootz is survived by many cousins.
Vern was a tour bus driver for Monumental Motor Tours for many years. He loved his job, and it showed in his enthusiasm on all of his bus trips whether he was the driver or the tour escort. He traveled widely throughout the U.S. and Canada and enjoyed every minute of it.
He loved nature. One of his favorite spots to visit was the Florida Keys where he and Margaret traveled to in their van when he wasn't driving a tour bus.
Services and interment are private, although a "Celebration of Life" will be announced at a later date.
