To my sweet and favorite father-in-law, thank you for being a wonderful father to my husband. You never thought of yourself this way but your son always looked to you and looked up to you in so many ways. The daily phone calls and your concerns about his health and new position at work. He knew that he had your support. Your trips to train shows, flea markets and just sitting around talking were great father son bonding moments, you were his best friend. Whether it was about the war, cars, your silly phone, politics or the girls, he listened to you and much of what he learned came from your sharing and your stories. You even got him to try minced meat pie! You were not perfect but you were not afraid to admit that and so you were perfect in his eyes. You taught him how to bite his tongue no matter what others had to say, knowing that you knew that truth and that was all that mattered. You showed him that no matter what came your way there was a bright spot in everything and given time things were always better again.

You were a perfect grandfather to our daughters. They loved those quiet times growing up, sitting next to you and you reading them anything they brought to you. They respected your opinion about their guys and loved that you embraced them just as they were your own sons. The guys loved your wit and candor. The girls loved our dinners together and the conversations about Trump and the ways of the world. It was good for them to hear the history of our country and your participation in making our country great.

You and I had an understanding. We got each other’s sense of humor and we ran with it. You loved the idea that everyone would think of you as scrooge but we both knew that you just wanted the simple life and things were not important to you. I loved our alone time, talking about your life and hearing about your adventures growing up and moving to Baltimore, as well ventures during the war with a bit of work stories slathered in there too! Riding in the car with you, as my copilot, was fun and informative. Talking my ear off while John dozed off in the backseat at times and if the game was on it was even more fun. Still never could figure out how he slept when you talked 😊 You are the best father-in-law a girl could have asked for and I am a better wife, mother, mother-in-law and person for it. We will miss you, but you’re not really gone and so I spend my commute time talking to you and MIL both now and know that you are keeping an eye on us and still a big part of our lives Pop and always will be. Love you.

Johnny "Pussycat" Palmer ! Where do I begin ? You became part of my family over 30 yrs ago. I loved when you and I would go toe-to-toe exchanging not so kind words to each other, but always done in fun. I will dearly miss you at our Christmas eve parties, along with your unique dress style including but no limited to, your knee-high stockings, pants pulled up to your chest, and oh yes, I can't ever forget your "Elvis" wig that you would wear at special occasions. It was truly an honor to have known you and I will be forever grateful for the generousity that you have shown to my family. You will never be forgotten and will be dearly missed. God Bless !!
